Lion Brewery Root Beer
Found this stuff while driving to NY in a market north of Scranton, PA off of I-81. The label reads "Lion Brewery, Wilkes-Barre, PA." While the company also makes alcoholic beverages as well as the Olde Philadelphia line of sodas, this is the first I've heard of the brand and first I've seen of this label.
Glass-bottled, so that's a plus. Corn-sweetened though. My thinking is, if you're going to through the trouble to put it in a glass bottle, might as go a little further and sweeten it with real sugar to really show some quality. Still, for a corn-sweetened brew, this isn't bad at all. Plenty of "rooty" flavor with some noticeable vanilla thrown in for good measure and not overly sweet. Not much head though. Could use a smidge more bite in my estimation. All in all, it's a pretty darn good root beer.
In a neat aside, the bottlecaps hide little word-riddles underneath. They don't provide the answers, so you can wrack your brain forever if you can't figure out the answers.
Sweetened with: "High Fructose Corn Syrup"
Verdict: Worth a 6-pack or two
