You might be wondering why I'm reviewing Coca Cola when I stated that I wouldn't be talking about "the big boys" in this community. Well, here's where I make the exception since this isn't the Coca Cola you can get from any convenience store or supermarket. This is imported Coca Cola from Mexico. You can find these at most Latin American Markets--sometimes in the tall 16 oz varieties as well!
"What's the difference," you ask? Plenty!
First off, as you can see, it's in a glass bottle. Which means, no chance of a plastic or aluminum taste invading the flavor of the drink. As any beer drinker will tell you, it's always better in glass than a can.
Secondly, and most importantly, it's sweetened with SUGAR! All the major soda companies moved from sweetening their beverages with sugar to high fructose corn syrup in the 70s and 80s, and not for the better for a number of reasons (flavor as well as potential health problems.)
This return to "old school" recipe and bottling adds up to a much smoother taste than what you normally get from the Coke you'll get from a can or 2 liter.
So if you ever come across a Mexican or Latin American market, take a look at what they've got in their cooler/fridge and see what you've been missing for the past 20 years . . .
Sweetened With: "sugar"
Verdict: Worth a bottle or two
