Kutztown Bottling (White) Birch Beer

Kutztown Bottling (White) Birch Beer
Another variety from Kutztown Bottling. Tried their dark Birch some time ago, now it’s time for their white birch. I have high hopes for this since it’s the first white birch I’ve come across that is sweetened with “pure cane sugar.” That probably explains that ever so slight tan coloring to the birch beer. It’s still clear, but you can see some coloring to it if you look hard enough.

Wow. Talk about flavor! Sweet. Bitey. Good wintergreen flavor. I think that cane sugar really makes the flavor linger more than usual for these white birches. It’s really damn good. Hope you can find it!

Jones Soda Cherry

Jones Soda Cherry

Believe it or not, I'm not the biggest fan of Jones Sodas. To me they've seemed more about the eccentricity of their flavors (they made a Turkey and Gravy soda not too long ago for Thanksgiving) than quality. Still, they do glass bottle their beverages and use Cane Sugar (for the most part.) Oddly enough though, I never knew they made a cherry soda. Of all the flavors of theirs I've seen (and I've seen quite a few!) I've never come across just plain ol' cherry until I saw it at this mom&pop convenience store in Brooklawn, NJ.

And I'm glad I did, because this is one tasty cherry soda! It tastes almost exactly as if you took the flavor of a maraschino cherry and carbonated it. Just the right sweetness and tartness. This and some vanilla ice cream would probably make for one MEAN ice cream float! Don't pass this one up!

Reading Draft Birch Beer

Reading Draft Birch Beer

Another one of Reading Draft's variety of sodas that I found at the random farm market in PA. This time it's their Birch Beer. Was a little worried about this one because the Blueberry Birch Beer, while tasty, was a bit lacking in the Birch Beer flavor department. Still, being sugar sweetened and naturally flavored, I held out hope that this might be worth my while.

And I'm here to say that it is most verily worth my while. This is just really good. Lotsa bite. Full, strong birch and wintergreen flavor. Even a bit earthy. This is easily one of the best birch beers I've ever had. Just hope I find it somewhere else other than that farm market!

BRAINS!

D&G Genuine Jamaican Ginger Beer

D&G Genuine Jamaican Ginger Beer

Found this at a corner store in Brooklyn near the Botanic Garden. Not really sure what the DG stands for, but the small print on the label says “Bottled under the authority of: PC Jamaica LTD., Kingston, Jamaica” and “Distributed by Reggae Imports LTD., Brooklyn, NY.” So yeah, no clue as to what DG means. Yet, with the credentials in the small print, least we know it is truly a “Genuine Jamaican” ginger beer. Now, does it live up to the name?

It’s got the spice. Maybe not as spicy as most, but definitely bites well. Nice sweetness. Strong ginger flavor. Could use a little more carbonation, but this might be due to the fact that I’ve been holding off on drinking this for a few months. All in all, it’s a pretty decent ginger beer. Definitely won’t go wrong should you decide to grab some.

Kutztown Bottling Root Beer

Kutztown Bottling Root Beer

Here's another Kutztown Bottling product. I figured if they have a Birch Beer and Ginger Beer, odd are that they have to have a Root Beer as well. This was found at that Farm Market from where I also got the last few reviews.

This is really good. Nice rooty flavor (maybe even a hint of wintergreen/birch flavor.) Nice bite. Nice sweetness. The ingredients list "yucca extractives." Usually when you have that in the list, you can't go wrong. Being sugar sweetened as well, this is definitely one not to pass up!

Kutztown Bottling Black Cherry

Kutztown Bottling Black Cherry

Yet another soda from Kutztown Bottling Works. They're definitely covering all the bases of these classic soda flavors. Usually those are root beer, birch beer, ginger ale/beer, some sort of cream soda and, of course, black cherry. Since they've been pretty good so far, I looked forward to this flavor.

Mmmmmmm . . . tasty! Very fruity tasting. Just the right amount of sweetness. Nice carbonation. Yeah, this is definitely one of the best black cherry sodas I've ever had. I'd definitely love to make an ice cream float with this stuff!

Stewart's Grape Soda

Stewart's Grape Soda

Another one of Stewart's elusive flavors. Their Root Beer, Cream Soda and Orange Cream seem to be their most widely available varieties, but they have a few that just aren't out there as much. This Grape Soda that I found in a convenience store in Brooklawn, NJ is one of them.

It's weird though. This stuff is completely artificial (artificial flavorings and high fructose corn syrup), but it still tastes better than most grape sodas out there! How do they manage that? They don't even boast of having "triple filtered water" like most glass-bottled sodas do! Perhaps it's that "tantaric acid" listed in the ingredients. Could be. Have no idea what kind of acid that is, but usually you find citric acid in sodas for flavor. In any case, it's better than any of the big boy grape sodas, but not sure if it's worth the extra price you'd pay for it.
