badtz - happy thoughts

Pepsi Cola (Import)

Pepsi Cola (Import)

Another inclusion of a "big boy" soda. Just as the Mexican Imported Coca Cola, this can be acquired at many Latin American markets. This one I got at a Mexican market in Claymont, DE.

Also like the Mexican Imported Coca Cola, it is glass bottled and SWEETENED WITH SUGAR! So if you prefer the North Carolina-borne cola to the Atlanta, GA-borne cola, you do have a sugar-sweetened option if you choose to seek it out!

Sweetened With: "Sugar"

Verdict: worth a bottle or two

Deerfield Trading Company Juicy Orange Cream

Deerfield Trading Company Juicy Orange Cream

Another in the Deerfield Trading Company "gourmet sodas" made exclusively for Walgreens. I've seen and tried a number of Orange Cream sodas for a while now and haven't been too fond of the flavor. I mean, I like creamsicles a lot, but these types of sodas just don't really emulate that flavor all that well. Still, since the sodas in this Deefield/Walgreens line have been pretty good, I was willing to give this flavoring a try again.

First thing that struck me was that it's so clear! I've never seen an orange soda which you could see straight through! When I first took a taste, the orange flavor hits you first then you get a good shot of vanilla. And it's pretty sweet. While it's better than the orange creams I've had in the past, it's still missing something. I think it could have use a little more tartness. A couple drops of citric acid would have done it well.

Verdict: worth trying at least once

Virgil's Micro Brewed Root Beer

Virgil's Micro Brewed Root Beer

I've seen this brew at Whole Foods a number of times. The high price tag kept me away for the most part. I mean, sure I want natural stuff in my root beer, but I don't want to give up a kidney to try it! Thankfully, a friend bought some and gave me a bottle, and I've been hording it until I could get ready to review it.

Hmmmm . . . lotsa earthy flavors in this. First thing you'll taste is a LOT of licorice flavor. In fact, you could almost classify this as a "licorice soda" there's so much licorice flavor in it! Like Natural Brew, there's a crapton of spices, herbs and roots (anise, vanilla, clove, wintergreen, sweet birch, nutmeg, pinto berry oil, balsam oil, oil of cassia) they squeezed into this beverage other than the licorice--but you can't really notice because of the licorice! So while it isn't bad, it just doesn't taste all that "rooty."

Sweetened With: "unbleached cane sugar, caramelized unrefined cane sugar, molasses"

Verdict: worth trying at least once
